Market of the earth

On two Saturdays a month, the main square of our district capital becomes a vibrant meeting place for sustainable food production. Over 200 market days have already taken place and permanent stallholders offer a variety of products, including organic fish, artisan bread, free-range eggs, fresh and refined game, beer, lamb specialities, old vegetables, mostly organic. There is always a wine stand, something to eat, such as homemade empanadas, lamb liver cheese rolls, etc. Guests from the large Slow Food family are always present and enrich the diversity of our market.

In 2012, we launched Austria's second Market of the Earth location with the "Regionalmarkt - Markt der Erde Horn", helping to turn an almost extinct old town centre back into a place for meeting and valuable exchange. Our market is not only a place to sell and buy, but also a place of learning and inspiration. While shopping, you can meet local producers, learn more about their work and benefit from their knowledge and experience:

  • Organic bread and pastries from BROTocnik from Burgerwiesen
  • Fresh, local organic fish from the Ottenstein Estate from Zierings 
  • Organic vegetables from Biosain Tristan Toé from Wachtberg 
  • Fresh, refined organic lamb and organic hemp from the Nendwich organic farm in Pernegg
  • Honey, beeswax candles, foam rolls, tomato sauces, Christian and Birgit Hundlinger from Mühlfeld.
  • Smoked fish specialities from Veronika Hundlinger
  • Organic tomato sauces and organic pickles from Pure seed from St. Leonhard 
  • Homemade Argentinian specialities from Algo Rico & Sandra Federigi 
  • Organic beer open and in the bottle from the Hop spinning mill from Waidhofen/Thaya           
  • Game meat and game specialities from Andreas Winkelhofer from Breiteneich (break from April to September)  
  • Organic free-range poultry (chicken, duck, turkey and goose) from Wald Gut in Mahrersdorf

  • Organic eggs from free-range chickens, organic wheat, organic spelt, organic pasta from Mang Organic Farm from Horn

  • Organic mushrooms such as lemon sole, shitake and hedgehog goat's beard from the Schöls family in Hollenburg

  • Espresso, cappuccino, etc. from FAIRTRADE at Birgit Hundlinger's stand
