Organic farm Nendwich

A place for conscious nutrition and contemplation: since 1997, the Nendwich organic farm in Pernegg has combined high-quality food production with an awareness of valuable nutrition. Visitors to the nearby monastery seeking inner peace and new insights often find their way to the farm shop after fasting courses. Fittingly, farm manager Andreas Nendwich is not only a farmer, but also a trained fasting instructor who has deeply internalised the importance of healthy food.

Hemp: a versatile crop
One focus of the farm is the cultivation of hemp, which Andreas describes as a "great crop". Hemp has a wide range of uses: as food, a fibre plant and due to its positive effects on soil life. In terms of nutritional physiology, it impresses with an ideal ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids and over 90 per cent unsaturated fatty acids. Former farmer Leopoldine Nendwich, who is still actively involved on the farm at the age of 85, likes to attribute her fitness to the regular consumption of hemp products with a smile.

Sheep farming with respect for nature
Andreas attaches great importance to natural conditions when it comes to animal husbandry. The sheep spend most of their lives on the pasture, in winter and during the lambing season they find shelter in the barn. The sheepskins are also used: they are gently tanned using vegetative or medicinal methods in a partner company and sold in the farm shop.

Commitment to Slow Food
The Nendwich organic farm is not only a pioneer of sustainable agriculture, but was also instrumental in the founding of the Horner Slow Food "Market of the Earth". The farm thus makes an important contribution to the promotion of regional and fair food.
