Meierhof Peigarten
The Apeltauer family from the idyllic Meierhof farm combines traditional values and sustainable agriculture. The extensive offer ranges from Waldviertler Blondvieh cattle breeding, slow food products and a diverse range of farm shops.

In the quiet, elongated Peigarten, you reach the Apeltauer family farm at the end of the village. Below the Peigarten castle, which dates back to the 12th century, are the residential building and the former sheepfold, which now houses the farm equipment.
Kurt's father bought the estate from Lilienfeld Abbey in 1962. Kurt, who is still very inquisitive, switched to organic farming in 1994 and to Demeter in 2003. This made him a pioneer of organic farming in the upper Waldviertel.
Today, his daughter Katharina runs the business with passion. Her dog Fina is always with her. Waldviertler Blondvieh cattle are bred and Waldstaudekorn, both Slow Food Presidia, are cultivated in the typical Demeter farm cycle. Mum Gertrude has been running a Demeter beekeeping business for many years.
The honey as well as the partially refined grains such as einkorn, Waldstaudekorn, but also caraway, lentils, sunflower oil, the majority of the one-hectare vegetable garden and much more are marketed in the farm shop. The surrounding catering trade is also supplied, as are partners such as the Bäuerinnenladen Dobersberg and the Genusshittn Aigen.
